At the beginning of March 2020, we inaugurated the "Geological Mapping Rally" at the initiative of the Geological Society and the Geological Survey.

The competition was attended by motivated teams from Ben Gurion University of the Negev, the Hebrew University and the Geoprospect Company, and it was conducted for three days in the central Negev, led by Yoav Avni and Gidi Bar. The meeting was in the format of a field mission game with an emphasis on geological mapping and solving structural and geomorphological problems in the area of ​​Nahal Marzaba under the Zalmon spur, Nahal Nekraot, Nahal Gilad and Nahal Hadav.

It was not easy to determine who the winners were, it was difficult to quantify the differences in the experience and guidance that each team received, and in any case we were under the impression that the lead goes to the Hebrew University team in Jerusalem!

Next time we will try to better balance the composition and early professional background of the competing teams.
